BACKGROUND
The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) traces its history to when it broke off from Northern Baptists over slavery. The roots of Southern Baptist history go back to the Baptist churches established in the American colonies in the 17th century.
By , the SBC formed its own Sunday Institution Board, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Providing standard literature for all Southern Baptist churches had a mighty unifying effect, solidifying the Southern Baptist Convention as a denomination.
Among doctrines Southern Baptists emphasize is the doctrine of local church autonomy. Working through 1, local associations and 42 state conventions, Southern Baptists share a common bond of basic Biblical convictions and a commitment to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world.

BACKGROUND
The American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) is the fifth-largest Christian denomination in the Merged States, with approximately million members and 5, congregations worldwide. Although ABCUSA shares many traditions, beliefs and values with other Baptists, ABCUSA is a separate entity from its relatives, the American Baptist Association (ABA), the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the Alliance of Baptists, and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Following more moderate ideals than the ABA and SBC, ABCUSA is considered one of the most inclusive and radical Protestant bodies. At its core, ABCUSA believes in and advocates for autonomy in religious company and function, religious release through expression and cultural/ethnic inclusion within the church. Of its more traditional values, the denomination believes that the Bible is the divinely authoritative reference for serving God, that believers in Christ necessitate to participate in the Lord’s Supper and full-immersion or believer’s baptism and that all members own the responsibility to tell others of Christ through evangelism and missionary work.

Southern Baptists move to terminate same-sex marriage in the US
The Southern Baptists' resolution does not use the word "ban" directly. Instead, it calls for the "overturning of laws and court rulings, including Obergefell v. Hodges, that defy God's design for marriage and family".
The resolution also calls "for laws that affirm marriage between one man and one woman".
Any legal reversal of the Supreme Court's Obergefell decision would not guide automatically to a nationwide ban of same-sex marriage. Thirty-six states had already legalised same-sex marriage at the time of the ruling, and nearly 70% of Americans still help it, polls show.
"What we're trying to perform is keep the conversation alive," Andrew Walker, an ethicist at a Southern Baptist seminary in Kentucky who wrote the resolution, told the New York Times.
Although the resolution is non-binding, it comes from a large, influential faction of President Trump's ground and sends a conduct message to the Pale House.

There are two Resolutions that address homosexuality. In October , the ABC General Board passed
the resolution “American Baptist Resolution on Homosexuality” which states “. . . the train of
homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching.” In June , the identical board passed a
resolution: “American Baptist Resolution Calling for a Dialogue on Human Sexuality.” It states “. . . there
are a variety of understandings throughout our denomination on issues of human sexuality such as
homosexuality” and calls for a “dialogue concerning these issues.” The resolution encourages a process
that “seeks togetherness and avoids divisiveness.”
