Can rats be gay
Homosexuality, one of the many different sexual behaviors exhibited by humankind, has been rejected, persecuted, and denied. Are the studies that attempt to find causation moral? Is this find for the "why" of homosexuality a continuation of the heterosexist assumption that heterosexuality is normal and homosexuality abnormal? Are assumptions being made that homosexuality is a disease and should therefore be treated medically? Is the analyze currently being done heterosexist? Studies that are existence performed currently and those done in the recent past have shown that there are strong connections between male homosexuality and biology. By presenting the scientifically significant studies that I have come across, I intend to lower the ignorance surrounding homosexuality and the behaviors often found with it, and to show some of the correlations between biology and male homosexuality.
Throughout my research of homosexuality, I wavered back and forth, debating the morality of this search for a cause. It seemed that finding a lead to for homosexuality was somewhat akin to finding the cause for a disease. Unhappy with the association of homosexuality with abnormali
Anecdotal observation of a sexual encounter between two male naked mole-rats
Abstract
Same-sex sexual behaviours (SSBs) are widespread across the animal kingdom, yet brief consensus exists regarding their potential adaptive functions or evolutionary history. To fully address questions such as why or how a trait has evolved, it is important to first understand its natural history. Here, we present evidence of SSBs in two male naked mole-rats for the first time. Due to extreme natal philopatry, most naked mole-rats never disperse, making encounters with potential mates valuable in fitness terms. However, in captive colonies of naked mole-rats, a rare disperser morph has been described. We speculate that such dispersing individuals may be indiscriminatory in their mating strategy, copulating with conspecifics regardless of sex, to counter the risk of missed reproductive opportunities. This behavioural strategy would contrast with the common characterisation of naked mole-rats, which describes them as fiercely xenophobic and hostile to unfamiliar individuals. Further, the observation of an indiscriminate mating strategy in a
I LIVED IT: I Fell for a Rat Queer
They say the heart wants what the heart wants, but what are we to do when our own hearts betray us? I always thought I was a clear-thinking person, who knew right from wrong, and trusted my instincts and desires. But that changed when the unthinkable occurred: I fell for a rat queer.
If you’re straight or contain a real job, you may not know what a rat queer is. A rat queer is basically a gay person who owns pet rats, and that’s, like, their whole thing. You might be thinking, “Wait, I thought gay people owned cats?” Well, grow up; there’s more than one kind of gay person.
Some have pet rats, and I’m in love with one of them.
Before I met C, which sounds like I’m using an initial to protect their anonymity, but actually that’s their whole name, I thought rat queers were like people who race marathons, or get MFAs: Doing too much, and for what? You’re already marginalized, why add owning multiple rats to the mix? Flash forward four months, and I still feel that way, but I fell for C and increasingly feel pressured to nurture a positive relationship with their rats: Erasmus and Boob.
Most rat queers will jump at
