Armenia: a Young Gay Couple’s Tragic Fate

On the evening of October 20, two young men jumped to their deaths from a bridge in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

The couple - 16-year-old Arsen and 21-year-old Tigran - had recently posted photos on Instagram with the caption, “Happy end: decisions about sharing the photos and our future actions were made jointly by both of us.”

The reaction to the Instagram photos, representing the two young men kissing, applying face masks and displaying what appeared to be wedding bands, included some emotional tributes – but were largely expressions of jubilation that they were dead and calls for other same-sex attracted people to kill themselves.

Armenia is a wonderful country for family holidays, for couples, a group of friends and representatives of the LGBT community. Despite the general misconception, Armenia is a hospitable and tolerant country. Still, LGBT representatives need to know the nuances about the territory and the people before planning a trip to Armenia.

Armenia and Armenians

Armenians are one of the most ancient people with the traditions and way of life formed for centuries. Today, a new generation is trying to preserve the heritage and ancient traditions. Hospitality is the very first word that describes Armenians. This is a national character and you will feel it as soon as your airplane arrives.

Armenia is located between two civilizations of Asia and Europe. The traditions of Armenians are closely associated with Asia, while the contemporary country is quite European. For tourists, there are available all services for a comfortable and curious stay. In addition, Armenia is considered one of the safest countries in the world with a very low crime rate. In Yerevan, you can safely stroll in the streets at night. The youth is open to everything new and differs from the

As an entire population of second-generation Americans like myself, the first in their Armenian families to be born in America, become of age and must make the decision of continuing their cultural heritage or forgoing it, we have yet to grapple a very important issue that we cannot continue to omit . The existence of same-sex attracted men and women in our community has yet to be fully known and is a truths that many of us still approach with hostility. Why
