Conversation with Batemates

Bros, it’s day we talk about HIV. I had the longest conversation to date on the Batemates podcast because there was so much to learn from JBator Goon about being uncover about one’s HIV status—and of course, lots of hot talk about kinks, poppers, rivalries, and the connection we all contribute as bators doing our best to respect everybody in our community. This one is good and interesting and important, and you won’t want to miss it.

In this engaging conversation, the hosts investigate various aspects of masturbation, bating, and the people surrounding these practices. They discuss personal preferences, the role of poppers, and the dynamics within the bating community, including rivalries and the importance of connection. The conversation also delves into the technical features of the Batemates platform and future developments aimed at enhancing user experience. In this conversation, JBatorGoon and B8tem8te search the themes of people, consent, and the intersection of HIV awareness and sexuality within the bating culture. They discuss the importance of creating sound spaces for individuals to express their desires without stigma, the role of masturbat

A Queer Art Canon: Kelly McCormack and Orlando (and The Little Mermaid and The Left Hand of Darkness)

by Johnnie Walker on December 20th, in Columns

Let’s make a canon! And let’s fill it with queer art, or queer-ish art, or art that has no idea how queer it is. Lgbtq+ art is often private art: black-market, whispered-about, read-between-the-lines art. And since private art can be complicated to find, let’s illuminate a light on a few of our favourite things so all our friends can see them.

We’ll call it a canon because it sounds Weighty and Important and Stern, but we also won’t be too serious about it. We won’t construct The Canon, just a canon. Each month, we’ll chat with a diverse queer-about-town and ask them to submit something to the canon. And they’ll tell us what that book or play or movie or TV episode or sculpture or poem or dance piece or opera or photograph or painting or performance art piece or anything else means to them and why they think it deserves a spot in our illustrious canon.

This month, we talked to author, performer, musician, and filmmaker Kelly McCormack about Orlando (both the novel by Virgina Woolf and the film by Sally Porter) as well as Urs

It&#;s very difficult to estimate, with any meaningful accuracy, the number of furries that exist on world Earth. But for the moment, let&#;s do a rough estimate.

Estimating the Furry Population in

In , a reasonable estimate was between , and 1 million people. That&#;s quite the range, but either number is a excellent starting point.

That was four years ago.

Furry conventions appear to grow consistently at a rate of over 20% per year, pre-pandemic. This means furry convention attendance has a doubling time of about years.

If there were 1 million furries in when that article was published, and the growth rate of furry convention attendance was indicative of the growth rate of the furry fandom at large, then there might be as many as 2 million furries today.

It&#;s probably still less than 2 million as I write this, but not by very much.

The estimate could also be as few as , if we lowballed the initial estimate and assumed zero growth. But anecdotally, I think that&#;s less likely than 2 million.

Why Does It Matter How Many Furries Exist?

There&#;s an old saying, &#;One bad apple spoils the bunch.&#;

And while there is some truth to that cliché, it isn&#;t, &#;One b

In Poland, no one writes about the tragic fate of homosexuals during the Nazi era. Nothing has been published about the thousands of Polish homosexuals who became death camp victims. Ordinary embarrassment is the reason that scholars remain silent about Nazism’s homosexual victims.

Germany’s Golden Years The nineteenth century was the first period when voices openly defending homosexuality and refusing to condemn it were heard on a broad scale. The Napoleonic Code of served as the model for this courteous of progress. Under the influence of the French Revolution, Bavaria repealed in the law that imposed penalties on homosexual unions. The government of Hannover soon followed suit. The German Reich, with Bismarck heading its government, was proclaimed in , monitoring the Franco-Prussian War. Article of the unified legal code stated that “any man who permits indecent relations with another dude, or who takes part in such relations, shall be subject to punishment by imprisonment.”

The Berlin physician Magnus Hirschfeld zealously opposed Article In , he founded the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee, which campaigned for the repeal of Article and for educatio
