Grab a water gun, head here in mid-April and you have a legit free pass to spray water at any cutie you see walking down the street!
Songkran is the Buddhist Modern Year festival, which takes place every year in mid-April. Around this moment, Phuket and Bangkok host some of the biggest gay parties across all of Asia. But the thing to do in Songkran is chuck rain at everyone.
Seriously – in Buddhism, this symbolizes the washing away of bad luck from the previous year. It cleanses you! And oh male child do we gays romance a bit of cleansing? Trust us to seize this to a whole different level, using it as an excuse to sashay the streets topless (it is, after all, super hot here in April!), chuck water at each other, and form it into a monumental party!
Phuket continues the festivities right after Songkran when Phuket Pride kicks off. Though to be frank, we found Phuket to be one big queer partyville throughout the entire year. There's an entire area of gayness here in Patong affectionately nicknamed “Paradise Complex”, where all the gay
Paradise Complex Patong
Phuket gay nightlife scene
Paradise complex in Patong Beach has been the heart of the Phuket Gay party zone for more than twenty years. I don’t know if the fancy name had any influence on the choice of location, but it’s really easy to find, right at the foot of The Royal Paradise Hotel, a floor tower erected in the middle of it appreciate a lighthouse.
It is a fun and easygoing area, and you don’t even have to be queer to enjoy it. All year round, when darkness comes, bars open their doors on each side of the main road, and some have a small but entertaining cabaret show. Other venues just feature a stage where boys would flex some muscles, well, the ones who have, to hold the attention of the guests sitting in sofas around the room. Then, the rest is up to them.
Bars’ names might change quite often, but some have been unlocked forever. ‘My Way’, the brightest and most eye-catching, has the best ladyboys cabaret show in this area and occasionally hosts special events. Here, you can enjoy a decent little cabaret show for the price of a drink. If you wish a full-blast Vegas-style cabaret show, you’ll have to go to ‘Simon Cabaret’, but you’ll have to pay an e

Phukets gay nightlife scene is concentrated in a tiny area of Patong recognizable as the Paradise Complex. This is a vibrant enclave of gay businesses in front of the Royal Paradise Hotel, just off Rat-U-Thit Road. As well as bars and discos, the area also features restaurants, Internet cafs, saunas and some accommodation.
The Boat Bar, a disco offering nightly cabaret shows and an outside terrace bar, is probably the most popular and well-known of the venues here. Another long-standing favourite is My Way. This stylish gay go-go also puts on a lively cabaret performance every night.
There are only a couple of gay venues in Patong to be found outside of the Paradise Complex: E-san La-prao and Maeng Cup, both tucked away down a small street at the southern end of Patong. Both are local design gay karaoke bars and are open very sdelayed.
