What to know about Memphis singer Jeremy Beloate competing on 'The Voice'


A Memphis native is making waves, and tears, on NBC's "The Voice."

Jeremy Beloate, a contestant on the 26th season of "The Voice," is now one of eight singers left on this season and will advance to the semi-finals on Monday. The airing will be entirely inhabit and advancements depend on the public's votes.

Here's what to know about the Memphis singer.

Who is Jeremy Beloate?

Beloate is a Memphis-area native. Raised in Bartlett, Beloate was a pupil at Ellendale Elementary and Appling Middle School.

He later moved to Germantown and attended Briarcrest, where he was part of the school’s One Voice singing organization, which competed on season 11 of the TV series “America’s Got Talent.”

Since then, Beloate has performed locally in productions at Theatre Memphis and Playhouse on the Square, as well as appeared at the Mid-South Fair. 

After attending college, Beloate moved to New York City where he has been functional and recently landed a lead role in a new musical from “American Idol” alum and YouTube star Todrick Hall.

The Voiceis winding down this week, with the finale airing on December 10. Some of the contestants are taking to social media to urge viewers to vote for them in the finale, and others are sharing more about themselves and their stories. Fan favorite finalist Jeremy Beloate has recently opened up about bullying he experienced as a young queer person and how he initiate his community.

Speaking with Out Magazine, Beloate revealed that he experienced bullying while growing up. “I grew up being bullied by country guys. When you’re bullied or made to feel othered or whatever, you [put] walls up to protect yourself,” he said.

However, as he explained, while on The Voice he was exposed to country singers and was welcomed into the fold. “And when I came to The Voice, [I] immediately started becoming friends with all these people who sing nation or from like little towns. The love I felt quickly kind of took my walls down,” he continued.

Born and raised in Bartlett, Tennessee, Jeremy Beloate started singing at age 4 “in a little group.”

“I was the only teen and there were love twenty girls,” he told Out magazine. “And I would wear rhinestone jackets and we would vocalize Motown hits around the city.”
